What format is recommended when writing a business letter?
Format
The format of a letter refers to the arrangement of four main elements – heading, opening, body and closing – on the page. This gives rise to two most popular formats: full block, and modified block. The forms vary in indentation and alignment of letter parts.
In the full block style, all lines begin at the left
hand margin. Paragraphs in the body of the letter are not indented. This form
saves time typing because nothing has to be indented, and it is the easiest to
keyboard.
On the other hand, the modified block format has the return address, date, complementary
close and the signature block starting form half way the page towards the
right. You might have heard of another letter format called the modified
block with indented paragraphs. This is exactly the same as the modified
block except that the first lines of all the paragraphs of the body of the
letter are indented about five spaces.
