Approaching an interviewer during an employment interview
During the interview, an interviewee should ensure proper handling of entry, greetings, behavior and ending the the interview. These Four aspects are likely to contribute towards failure or success in an interview.
When approaching an interviewer, make sure you observe the followings;
1. Even when you have been invited to enter, still knock at the door do not slam-shut is.
2. Walk confidently and look as you approach - Eye contact is recommended for confidence. being confident is different from being arrogant.
3. Handshake firmly to communicate confidence - a limp handshake conveys fear or nervousness (avoid familiarity). do not be the first to offer your hand, don't squeeze, don't pull off. don't shake everybody, probably only the chair.
4. Look around quickly and get the right greeting address.
5. Never put objects on the interviewer's desks, or fiddle with them.
6. If there is offer for a drink (i.e water or any other soft drink) you don't have to accept it if it will interfere with the interview process and make you clumsy.
7. Body language and mannerisms are also important during an interview proceedings.
8. Don't sit until invited to do so, and don't move your chair.
9. Maintain eye contact but do not stare/ogle.
10. Avoid picking your nose or teeth, chewing gum, checks, lips etc
11. If you have to sneeze or blow your nose do it undisgustingly.
12. Watch your posture - sit upright and don't cross your legs (at the knees)
13. Avid irritating mannarism like grunts or clearing your throat, or verbal, example ''you know... er....ok....
14. Show enthusiasm and laugh or smile (to jokes) when appropriate - joke has to come from the interviewer.
15. While gestures could be used to emphasize, show interest or regulate conversation, don't overdo it.
16. Voice-tone, speed, pitch, volume and clarity have to be regulated (these mark emotion and feelings)
17. Don't swear or use slang words
18. Avoid responding to something you did not hear, understand, etc. if unable to respond satisfactorily, admit the fact.
19. Be aware of time - while answers should be sufficient , consider the length of your responses (typical response should take no more than two minutes)
20. Take your time to answer questions if you need to think.
21. Turn off your mobile, respect the interview.
22. Listern to the questions - don't assume you know what the question is going to be as soon as the interviewer begins.
23. When asked the same question again and again, go ahead and provide the same answer and again.
24. Don't cut in, or interrupt an interview.
25. While you might want to paraphrase what the interviewer has asked (to ensure clarity) don't correct the interviewer.
26. When faced with a hostile remark, hold your temper - some questions are deliberately designed to cause stress.
27. Ask one or two sensible questions before you leave. example of this includes
